Nighthawks Finish Weekend Tournament With a Win

BURNABY, B.C. – The NNU Women's Basketball team competed in their second game of the SFU Thanksgiving Tournament this morning against Concordia. In an impressive performance the Nighthawks outscored the Golden Eagles in three of the four quarters to take the overall win, 77-64. 

As the game got underway the Nighthawks looked strong offensively. Shooting 9 for 14 from the field goal position they were able to overpower the Golden Eagles who were only able to make 5 of 18. As the quarter ended the NNU team was up by 9. In the second quarter both teams went cold as they struggled to find their range. Only 24 points total were scored, 17 of them coming from the Nighthawks. As the half drew to an end the teams exited the court with the Nighthawks up, 39-20. 


The third quarter of the game is when CUI attempted to make a comeback, out shooting NNU 25-15. The Golden Eagles shot 8 for 16 from the field goal position and 4 for 7 from the three point line. However, the Nighthawks were able to hold on to their lead and go into the final quarter up by 9. In the fourth quarter the NNU squad was able to put the game away. They recorded a percentage of 45 from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line. In the end the Nighthawks took the victory, winning by 13. 


Kendall Clark recorded 23 points for the Nighthawks followed by Shawnacee Davis and Loy Waid who both scored 12. 


NNU will continue their games on the road as they head to Ellensburg Washington next week. They will compete in their first GNAC game of the season against Central Washington. The tip off is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. pacific time in the Nicholson Pavilion.
