Nighthawks Win on The Road

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Nighthawks had their second game of the week in Santa Barbara this afternoon against Vanguard. In an exciting game the Nighthawks achieved the win beating the Lions 56-53. 

In the first quarter of the game it was clear that this would be a competitive match up for the teams. The Lions were able to pull ahead with a small lead to finish the quarter shooting 20% from both the floor and the three point line, compared to the Nighthawks who struggled to find the three point range. Going into the second NNU was down by 2. With a very similar performance as the previous quarter the Nighthawks were able to put down buckets from the floor, but the three pointers made by the Lions gave them the edge. Giong into the half the Nighthawks were down 27-24. 


Coming out in the second half the Nighthawks began to turn the game around in their favor, out scoring the Lions by 9. With this run NNU was able to pull ahead from Vanguard and go into the final quarter of the game up by 6. In the fourth quarter the close game came to an exciting end with the Nighthawks on top. NNU recorded 41.67 from the field goal position and 20% form the three point line. The final score of the game was 56-53 in favor of the Nighthawks. 


Madeline Gebers led the Nighthawks with 14 points followed by Chloe Deharo who had 11. Deharo and Beaux Bruegman also contributed 7 rebounds a piece. 


The next game on the Nighthawks schedule is set for the 23rd in Arcata California as they go head to head with Cal Poly Humboldt. First Whistle will be at 5:30 p.m. pacific time in the Lumberjack Arena.
