WALLA WALLA, Wash. –
Brody Kemble won his second consecutive race as Northwest Nazarene cross country excelled at the Whitman Open on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Kemble led his men's side to a second-place finish as a team, behind only Gonzaga. On the women's side,
Morgan Erler's fourth-place finish highlighted a third-place result, trailing just Gonzaga and Washington State.
Kemble, a junior from Middleton, earned the victory with a time of 24:30.9, sprinting to the finish to edge out Gonzaga's Logan Schwartz by just half a second. Kemble's win comes on the heels of a dominant victory at Western Oregon's Mike Johnson Classic last weekend.
Grady Mylander was next for NNU with another top-10 finish, placing sixth with a time of 24:40.3.
Carter Stedman was 14
th,
Ian Stockett 17
th, and Neftali Menendez 20
th to round out the scoring five for the Nighthawks.
Erler earned her fourth-place slot with a time of 21:54.4, trailing just three runners from Gonzaga and missing out on third by less than a second.
Olivia Klein followed in 22
nd with a time of 23:20.80 and
Paige Trautman just behind her in 23
rd at 23:23.0. Mckenna Lechner and
Keelin Stewart also finished back-to-back, in 25
th and 26
th, respectively.
The Nighthawks will now make a trip across the country for their next meet, traveling to Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois for the Lewis Crossover Invite on Saturday, Oct. 12.
