Nighthawks Hang on For First Win of 2024

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball held on to a tight lead against Seattle Pacific, winning 50-47 on Thursday night.
 
The Nighthawks are now 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the GNAC.
 
Northwest Nazarene was dominant defensively in the first half, holding the Falcons to just 16 points. NNU was nine for 25 from the field, while SPU went seven for 32. In the second quarter, NNU did not allow an SPU player to reach the free throw line and the Nighthawks made nine of 11 from the charity stripe. After Seattle Pacific edged a 10-8 first quarter, NNU outscored the Falcons 21-6 in the second quarter and took a 29-16 lead into half.
 
SPU did not roll over in the second half. Despite any significant runs, the Falcons outscored the Nighthawks in the third quarter by a score of 19-11. SPU came within two points of NNU with just under six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Nighthawks held on to their lead through the end of the game.
 
Madeline Gebers led the team in points with 11. Beaux Bruegman led the team in rebounds with 10.
 
The women's next game is at home on Saturday, January 6th when they face off against MSU Billings who is currently ranked 17th in DII.
