Nighthawks Rout Red Leafs

NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene men's basketball stifled Simon Fraser on Thursday night, defeating the Red Leafs 69-51.

The Nighthawks improve to 9-7 overall on the season and 5-3 in GNAC play.

NNU started hot, racing out to a 14-4 lead after a Tru Allen and-one at the 15:38 mark. Simon Fraser cut the lead back down to single digits for the next seven minutes, but a Gabriel Murphy bucket at the 8:21 mark pushed the Nighthawks back up by 10, 28-18.

The lead continued to grow from there, with a Ryzin Bergersen triple making it a 16-point advantage, 41-26, with 2:42 remaining in the opening half. Simon Fraser would score the last four points of the half, though, cutting the deficit to 41-30 at the break.

NNU bounced back to open the second half and never looked back, growing their lead to as much as 25 in the second half at 65-40 with 6:27 left.

Simon Fraser was able to get a few points back in garbage time as the Nighthawks took the 19-point victory at 69-51.

Three Nighthawks were in double figures, led by 15 from Biggie Bergersen. Tru Allen added 13 points, five assists, and four steals, while Gabe Murphy had a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Aaron Murphy was also in double digits in rebounding with 10.

NNU will be back in the Johnson Sports Center this Saturday hosting Western Washington at 3:30 p.m.
