Nighthawks Fall to Seawolves at Home

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball fell to the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves, 79-63 on Saturday night.
 
The Nighthawks are now 7-8 overall and 4-4 in the GNAC.
 
The first quarter was evenly matched with back-and-forth scoring. The largest lead of the quarter was four points at 14-10, favoring the Seawolves. The Nighthawks outscored UAA 9-3 to finish the first quarter and earn a 19-17 lead.
 
Like the first quarter, the second quarter was tight. There were no significant runs for either team. With the score knotted at 31-31 Hilary James hit a step-back jumper as time expired to give NNU a 33-31 edge going into halftime.
 
Madeline Gebers started the second half scoring with a layup, but Alaska Anchorage answered by going on a 12-0 run to lead 43-35 at the 6:04 mark in the third quarter. The next field goal by the Nighthawks was again by Gebers, but this time for three points. Immediately after, Emma Clark showed off her speed with a fastbreak layup to make the score 46-43. After a couple free-throws by UAA, the score going into the fourth quarter was 48-43.
 
The Seawolves outscored the Nighthawks 16-6 in the first part of the final quarter and held at least a 12-point lead for the remainder of the game.
 
Once again, Madeline Gebers led the Nighthawks in points. This time she had 26 points. Gebers also led the team in rebounds with eight.
 
The women's next game is at home on January 27th against the Central Washington Wildcats. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:15 P.M. Mountain Time.
