NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball defeated the Nanooks of Alaska Fairbanks at home on Thursday by a score of 76-56
The Nighthawks are now 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the GNAC.
The Nighthawks came out of the gate firing on all cylinders. They opened the first quarter shooting 3-3 from deep to take a 9-2 lead. By the time the first quarter ended, NNU made seven of the 18 three-pointers they attempted and led 21-8.
NNU's shooting came back down to earth in the second quarter, but they still put up 15 points and went into half with a 10-point lead at 36-26.
The Nighthawks largest lead of the game came at the end of the third quarter when
Kendall Clark assisted
Hilary James who hit a three-pointer to give NNU a 26-point lead. UAF fought back in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the Nighthawks, leading to the 76-56 final.
The Nighthawks controlled the lead for all but the first 20 seconds of the contest.
Madeline Gebers led the team in points with 14, shooting 4-7 from three. Every Nighthawk that got minutes contributed to the win with points.
Hallee Schelhaas and
Elliett Lee each went 1-1 from three.
The women's next game is at home on January 20
th against Alaska Anchorage. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. Mountain Time.
