BURNABY, B.C. – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball came back to win a close one against Simon Fraser, 61-60, on Thursday night.
The Nighthawks are now 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the GNAC.
Simon Fraser led after one half of basketball 27-23. The only significant run belonged to the Red Leafs when they outscored NNU 12-1. Their run lasted from the 5:32 mark to 2:34 left in the first half.
Madeline Gebers was responsible for eight of the Nighthawks points in the first half and
Kendall Clark trailed closely with seven.
In the third quarter, the Nighthawks and the Red Leafs went back and forth. Each team scored 17 points and SFU held a narrow four-point lead entering the final quarter. SFU opened the fourth quarter outscoring NNU 8-2. Trailing by 10 points, the Nighthawks finished the rest of the game outscoring the Red Leafs 19-8.
Kendall Clark was responsible for nine points in the fourth quarter. With 27 seconds remaining, Gebers hit a three-point shot to tie the game 60-60. The final point was scored by
Cami Knishka after getting sent to the free-throw line.
Kendall Clark led the Nighthawks with 23 points and eight rebounds. Gebers had 16 points and seven rebounds, while Knishka had 11 points and seven rebounds.
The women's next game is against the Western Washington Vikings. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Saturday, January 13
th.
