GRAND JUNCTION, Colo – Northwest Nazarene men's soccer defeated Colorado Mesa 1-0 Thursday night to earn their second win of the young season.
NNU, no stranger to scoring early in games this season, did the same to Colorado Mesa.
Jim Wagenaar scored his third goal of the season just under three and a half minutes into the game. Jim's goal was assisted by
Raoul Barragan.
The Nighthawks outshot the Mavericks nine to eight in the first half, but the Mavericks did not go away quietly. CMU took 13 shots in the second half, completing the game with 21 shots and six of them on goal.
NNU was able to hold on to the 1-0 lead thanks to some clutch defensive play in the final moments of the contest.
Sawyer Price played all 90 minutes in the net and had six saves. This win marks Price's 28
th goalkeeper victory, passing Ryan Foo who graduated from NNU in 2016.
Sawyer Price is now number one all time in NNU history for goalkeeper victories.
The Nighthawks remain in Grand Junction, Colorado to play Westminster College on Saturday before heading to Texas next week.
