Nighthawks Take Care of Yellowjackets in Four Sets

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene volleyball bounced back from a brief two-match skid to take care of business on the road against Montana State Billings, defeating the Yellowjackets in four sets.
 
NNU improves to 6-6 on the season and 2-2 in GNAC action.
 
The opening set was a close battle, with NNU trailing 20-19 late. The Nighthawks took the next five points in a row and six of the last seven, with a Sarah Lyons kill giving NNU the 25-20 victory.
 
NNU rode the momentum well into the second set, leading by as much as 12 at 22-10 before taking the frame 25-14.
 
The Yellowjackets showed resilience, rallying to take the third set 26-24.
 
After a slow start to set four, the Nighthawks returned to form and pulled away from MSUB late, closing the frame on a 9-4 run for a match-clinching 25-19 victory.
 
Following her breaking of the NNU digs record on Thursday, Caroline McMahon looked as impressive as ever on the back line with 30 digs.
 
Londyn Giles had a strong match offensively, recording a career-best 21 kills while hitting .273. Maren Dent had 16 kills and 22 digs, while Sarah Lyons notched 10 kills and five blocks.
 
Gabi Moore added 45 assists, four blocks, and 13 digs. Helen Sullivan registered all three of NNU's aces in the match.
 
The Nighthawks are now 23-7 all-time against MSUB.
 
NNU will be back home next week, hosting Saint Martin's on Thursday night and Western Oregon on Saturday.
