Nighthawks Fly Past Dominican, Improve to 3-0

SEASIDE, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene volleyball continued their early season success on Friday night, improving to 3-0 on the year with a 3-1 victory over Dominican at the Otter Invitational.
 
NNU is the first GNAC team to three wins this season, with Saint Martin's and Western Oregon also undefeated at 2-0.
 
After dropping the first set 25-22, the Nighthawks rallied for dominant set victories in two and three by scores of 25-10 and 25-12.
 
In set four, Dominican came out strong with a 6-2 lead, but a 5-1 run by NNU evened the score at 7-7. The Nighthawks took the lead after that and never gave it back, finalizing the match victory with a 25-21 win in the final frame.
 
NNU hit well as a team at a .255 clip, while Dominican managed just a .093 attack percentage. The Nighthawks also had a 13-6 advantage in aces.
 
Londyn Giles had a fantastic all-around game for the Nighthawks, leading with 15 kills and four aces while adding eight digs. Maren Dent hit .389 with nine kills, while Hailey Cheney impressed with 12 kills and a .346 attack percentage.
 
Gabi Moore tallied 36 assists and three aces, while Caroline McMahon led the team with 17 digs.
 
The Nighthawks have one more match in Seaside, ending the trip against the host Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday at noon Pacific.
