PORTLAND, Ore. - The GNAC announced the all-conference teams and special awards for women's golf on Thursday, with Northwest Nazarene's
Elle McCord earning Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors to lead the Nighthawks.
Along with McCord's special honors and First Team nod, teammates
Madison Gridley and
Christine Cho were named to the Second Team. This is Gridley's third-straight all-conference honor and Cho's second in a row.Â
McCord is the first-ever NNU golfer to earn Player of the Year honors from the GNAC, and second woman to receive the Newcomer of the Year accolade joining Jessica Knight in the 2012-13 season. She has put together a stellar freshman campaign, leading the GNAC with a scoring average of 76.4 strokes per round.
In 11 events, the Star, Idaho native has finished in the Top 10 seven times, including four top-five finishes and one individual win. She also had the lowest score for the Nighthawks in all but one event this season, including two rounds of par or under.
McCord's season is not over, as she will be one of six at-large competitors at next week's NCAA West Regional in Dallas, Texas - NNU's first-ever women's qualifier to the NCAA postseason.
Gridley earns her third GNAC honor, joining a First Team selection in 2020-21 and a Second Team honor last season. She finished 11th in the GNAC in scoring average this year with 79.3 strokes per round. She tallied two top ten finishes, two top five finishes, and one individual win during the season.
Cho was a First Team pick last season in addition to this year's Second Team nod. She was just behind Gridley in 12th in the GNAC with a scoring average of 79.7. She finished in the top ten of two events this year, one top five finish, and one individual win.
