Trio of Nighthawks Named All-Region by the D2CCA

| By:
The D2CCA released their 2023 All-Region Teams for Division II softball on Monday, with Northwest Nazarene's Maia McNicoll, Tori Hensley, and Sidney Booth each earning the honor.

McNicoll was named to the First Team as an outfielder, while Booth is a Second Team pitcher and Hensley on the Second Team in the utility/pitcher spot. NNU's three honorees ties for the most in the region with Concordia, Sonoma State, and Cal State Dominguez Hills. NNU also had three of the six GNAC recipients.

McNicoll, the 2023 GNAC Player of the Year, was one of three outfielders named to the First Team. Entering the West Regionals, she was tied for third in the region in home runs with 11, first in RBIs with 45, and 10th in walks per game. She came up big in NNU's first victory at the GNAC Championships, driving in both runs in the 2-1 win over Western Oregon with a solo homer in the sixth and a two-out, walk-off single in the seventh. In a win over Western Washington on April 7, the outfielder belted her 35th career home run to set a new NNU program record. She also finishes her career in the NNU Top Ten in slugging percentage, runs, hits, doubles, RBIs, and walks, as well as in the GNAC career top ten in RBIs, home runs, and walks.

Hensley was also a First Team All-GNAC recipient this year, leading the Nighthawks in her final season both at the plate and in the circle. She was in the top ten in the West in ERA, WHIP, strikeout-to-walk ratio, walks allowed per 7 innings, batting average, and led the region and ranked sixth nationally in the toughest to strike out metric. In the circle, she allowed one or fewer runs in 16 of 27 appearances. At the plate, she had the most multi-hit games on the team with 21 and had the team's longest on-base streak this season with a run of 14 straight games from April 7 to April 29.

Booth, also a First Team All-GNAC recipient, continued her standout Nighthawks career with another dominant season in the circle. She led the region in strikeouts and wins and tied for first in shutouts, along with finishing in the top 10 in the West in ERA, WHIP, complete games, hits allowed per game, walks allowed per game, and strikeouts per game. Booth saved her best efforts for the end of the season, allowing just nine total runs over 75.1 innings (a 0.84 ERA) in her last 12 games. During the season, she also surpassed the GNAC career record for strikeouts (now has 603) and will continue to add to that record next year in her final season.

The trio helped lead the Nighthawks to the best season in program history, winning both the GNAC regular season and tournament titles before advancing to the regional final with three wins in Irvine.
