Booth Shuts Out Warriors in Tournament of Champions Opener

TURLOCK, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene softball rode a tremendous performance in the circle from Sidney Booth to a 1-0 win over Stanislaus State in the opening game of the Tournament of Champions.

The Nighthawks improve to 17-11 on the season with their fifth-straight win, and have now won 12 of their last 13 contests.

How it Happened

Booth was exceptional in the circle for NNU, tossing a complete game shutout with just four hits allowed, 10 strikeouts, and no walks. The four hits were scattered across four different innings, with the Warriors only reaching third base once in the game.

NNU had more chances to score with eight hits in the game, but were not able to push a run across until the final frame. With two outs in the top of the seventh and Jami Obringer on first, Clarissa Moreno singled to put runners on first and second. Tori Hensley then put the ball in play and reached safely on an error that allowed Obringer to come home for the 1-0 lead.

Booth then set the Warriors down in the bottom of the inning, including a pair of strikeouts.

Hensley and Abigail Gagnon each had two hits for the Nighthawks.

Next Up

NNU will continue action in Turlock with two games on Friday, battling Cal State Monterey Bay at 9:00 a.m. Pacific and Cal Poly Humboldt at 4:30 p.m. Pacific.
