Nighthawks Split Day with Yellowjackets, Win Series 3-1

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene softball settled for a split with Montana State Billings on Saturday, winning game one 2-0 before falling 6-3 in game two to win the series over the Yellowjackets three games to one.

The Nighthawks improve to 12-11 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.

Game 1

Sidney Booth dominated the Yellowjackets in the opener, tossing a complete game, two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts. She also hit one batter, allowing just three baserunners in the game.

NNU got their two runs early, as in the top of the first Abigail Gagnon drove home both Booth and Maia McNicoll with a single to center.

That was all Booth would need as she shut down MSUB for her seventh win of the season.

Gagnon, Clarissa Moreno, and Dominique Trevino each had two hits for the Nighthawks.

Game 2

The Nighthawks also grabbed the lead first in game two, scoring three times in the third on back-to-back-to-back RBI singles from Tori Hensley, Booth, and McNicoll.

Unfortunately, that was all the scoring NNU would do in the contest as MSUB tallied at least one run in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh frames to take the 6-3 victory.

Hensley started in the circle, going six innings and allowing five runs (only two earned) on eight hits while striking out four. She also had a pair of hits at the plate, including a double.

Next Up

NNU will have their bye week next week before heading north to Canada the following weekend, visiting Simon Fraser for a four-game series on March 24 and 25.
