Nighthawks Come Back for Overtime Victory

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball came back to force overtime and defeat Alaska Anchorage 78-75.
 
The Nighthawks are now 10-12 overall and 6-8 in GNAC play.
 
How it Happened
 
The Nighthawks edged a 12-5 lead to begin the 1st quarter, but the Seawolves went on a 10-2 run to gain the lead at 15-14. NNU answered with a pair of free-throws from Danika Starr and three-pointer from Cami Knishka to take the 19-15 lead to finish out the quarter.
 
After a back-and-forth battle, UAA finished out the second quarter with a 14-3 scoring run. After the run, the Seawolves led 38-28.
 
The Seawolves largest lead of the game was 14 points and came at the 3:04 mark in the 3rd quarter. Shortly after, Jordan Pinson came up with a steal and brought the ball down the court for a layup. Knishka scored the last basket of the quarter with a deep ball to make the score 54-47.
 
NNU went on an 11-2 run in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 63-63 with 46 seconds remaining. Clare Eubanks accounted for seven of those 11 points. After a basket from each team, the game went into overtime.
 
In overtime, Knishka had five of NNU's 13 points thanks to her fourth made three pointer and two free-throws. NNU made eight of nine free-throws in overtime and UAA made six of eight. Eubanks clutched the final two free-throws to bring the Nighthawks to their 78-75 victory.
 
Nighthawks Notes
  • Eubanks led the Nighthawks in scoring with 25 points – just two points shy of her career high
  • Knishka shot 4-6 from deep and led all players in assists with six
  • Starr led all players in rebounds with nine
  • NNU shot 50% from the field after the first half
