Nighthawks Handled by Red Leafs

BURNABY, B.C. – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball fell to Simon Fraser on Saturday afternoon by a score of 67-60.
 
The Nighthawks are now 9-12 overall and 5-8 in GNAC play.
 
How it Happened
 
The Nighthawks never possessed a lead throughout the game, despite trailing closely for most of the contest. SFU jumped out to a 13-5 lead to begin the matchup. NNU battled back to cut SFU's lead down to just five by the end of the 1st quarter.
 
NNU trailed 24-15 at the 6:07 mark in the second quarter, but thanks to baskets from Danika Starr, Clare Eubanks, and four free-throws, the Nighthawks were within a point at 24-23.
 
NNU trailed 29-32 coming out of half before SFU went on a 9-0 run to make the score 41-29. This 12-point differential was SFU's largest lead of the afternoon.
 
NNU battled in the 4th quarter, getting as close as four points away at 64-60 with 21 seconds remaining. The Red Leafs went on to seal the game with some free-throws and came away with the 67-60 victory.
 
Nighthawks Notes
  • Starr led the team in scoring and rebounds. She collected a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds
  • Eubanks and Lydia Nieto each scored double digits as well, with 12 and 11 respectively
  • NNU had 33 bench points to SFU's 14
  • NNU had 24 points in the paint to SFU's 20
  • NNU shot 87.5% from the free-throw line

The Nighthawks come home next week to face the two Alaska schools, beginning with Anchorage on Thursday.
