LACEY, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball rolled over Saint Martin's 69-51 to open GNAC play on Thursday.
The Nighthawks are now 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the GNAC.
Saint Martin's began the game with a 7-0 lead. NNU took a timeout to regroup, then started rolling with a three-point basket from
Madeline Gebers to spark the offense. SMU held a 16-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The only lead change of the game took place in the second quarter when Gebers hit back-to-back threes to give NNU a 22-20 lead. After a jumper from the Saints,
Shawnacee Davis made a three-point shot to give NNU a 25-22 lead at half.
SMU made two free throws to start the scoring in the second half before Gebers went on a 10-0 run. The Nighthawks continued to extend their lead in the fourth quarter. They had a lead of 20-points on two different occasions in the final quarter and finished the game up 69-51.
Gebers finished with 26 points, hitting six of 11 deep balls. The Nighthawks out-rebounded the Saints 40-27.
Beaux Bruegman led NNU in rebounds with 11.
The women's next game is on Saturday, December 2
nd. They face off against the Western Oregon Wolves in Monmouth, Oregon. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. Pacific Time.
