NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball defeated College of Idaho 70-59 in their second and final exhibition of the season.
College of Idaho began the game with a three pointer to take the lead. That would prove to be the only lead for the Yotes throughout the entirety of the contest. NNU played good defense and generated four turnovers on steals in the first quarter.
NNU went on a 10-2 run in the second quarter, giving themselves an 11-point lead. The Nighthawks shot 37% from beyond the arc in the second quarter, with two three balls coming back-to-back from
Kate Clark and
Beaux Bruegman. The half ended with an impressive buzzer-beater jump shot from
Hilary James.
The second half did not feature any large runs, but the Nighthawks gradually took control of the game. In the third quarter NNU reached a 15-point lead, which was their largest of the night.
Madeline Gebers led the team in points with 14.
Hilary James and
Kendall Clark were just behind her with 13. James led the team in steals with four and assists with five. As a team, NNU had 34 of their 70 points scored in the paint.
The Nighthawks first game in which stats will count is scheduled for Friday, November 10
th when they hit the road to face Stanislaus State.
