HAYWARD, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball fell 74-64 to Stanislaus State in their first game of the season.
The Nighthawks started off the game with an eight-point run and held the lead until the final seconds of the first quarter, when Stanislaus tied the game at 15-15. NNU was outscored 24-17 in the second quarter but generated seven points off turnovers compared to five from Stanislaus State.
The Warriors came out of half to score 23 points in the third quarter and held a 20-point lead entering the final quarter of the contest. The Nighthawks fought back and out-scored Stanislaus State 22-12 in the fourth quarter. NNU went on a 17-2 run to finish the game.
Madeline Gebers led the Nighthawks in scoring with a 20-point game. Gebers made five of 11 field goals, including four three-pointers. She also shot a perfect six for six from the free-throw line.
Kendall Clark led the team in rebounds with eight.
The girls look to bounce back tomorrow, when they play Cal State East Bay at 3:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
