NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball came up short against Simon Fraser with a final score of 66-61.
The Nighthawks are now 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the GNAC
How it Happened
The Nighthawks trailed early in the game, with Simon Fraser getting out to a 13-4 lead. NNU made up some ground late in the first quarter to trail by just one point. A layup from SFU at the end of the first quarter would result in the Nighthawks trailing 15-12.
An SFU layup to begin the second quarter had the Nighthawks trailing by five.
Loy Waid scored six consecutive points to give the Nighthawks their first lead of the night at 18-17. After some back-and-forth scoring, the Red Leafs went on a 10-0 run. The Nighthawks did not lead again after the second quarter.
NNU outscored SFU 21-20 in the 3
rd quarter, but still trailed by 11 going into the 4
th quarter.
The Nighthawks went on an 8-1 run to begin the 4
th quarter. The Red Leafs answered the short run with a three. Trailing 59-52, the Nighthawks showed heart.
Cami Knishka hit a jumper in the paint.
Jordan Pinson came up with a steal in the press that she took to the hoop for a layup to make the score 59-56. Pinson then got a rebound on the other end of the floor and brought it up. She drove the lane and kicked it out to
Emma Clark, who tied the game at 59-59 with a three-ball from the corner.
Simon Fraser started to pull away. After an and-1 basket from SFU, Pinson made a pair of free-throws. SFU answered with a layup late in the shot clock after a good defensive stand by the Nighthawks. A pair of free-throws from the Red Leafs would seal the game at 66-61.

- Danika Starr led the team in rebounds with 10
- NNU had 45 rebounds to SFU's 39
- NNU shot just over 82% on free-throws to SFU's 50%
