Women's Soccer Battles C of I to Draw in Exhibition

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's soccer took to the pitch for the first time in the 2022 season on Saturday, hosting local rival College of Idaho in an exhibition game for both teams that ended in a 2-2 draw.

How It Happened

NNU got on the scoreboard first, scoring in the 33rd minute as Kailyn LaBrosse gathered the ball in on the left side, dribbled around a defender, and fired a strike past the left arm of the Yotes' keeper to put the Nighthawks up 1-0.

The Nighthawks took that lead into halftime, but College of Idaho would even things up 12 minutes into the second period. The Yotes then took the lead in the 74th minute, going up 2-1.

NNU would respond with less than eight minutes to play, though, as Sierra Sanchez scored off an assist from Ashley Parton to knot the score at two apiece.

The Nighthawks had five more shots before the final horn sounded, but couldn't find the back of the net as they settled for the 2-2 draw.

Nighthawks Notes

  • With the game an exhibition for both sides, the draw will not count on either team's records and stats are not official and won't factor into the season tallies
  • NNU had won four straight matchups between the Nighthawks and Yotes entering this afternoon's contest
  • NNU had 22 shots with 10 on goal, while C of I managed five shots and put three on frame, with two of the three finding the back of the net
  • Ten Nighthawks registered a shot in the match
  • Alexis Montoya played the first half in goal and didn't face a shot on goal, with Bailey Blancett entering for the second period and making one save

Next Up

The Nighthawks will play their second exhibition game of the preseason with a visit to Idaho State on Monday, Aug. 15 at 5:30 p.m.
