Nighthawks Shut Out Wolves Twice in Doubleheader Sweep

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene softball held Western Oregon scoreless on Saturday to complete the four-game sweep of the Wolves, earning wins of 3-0 and 9-0.

With their eighth-straight win, the Nighthawks improve to 25-15 overall and 13-3 in GNAC play, keeping pace with Saint Martin's for a tie for first place in the conference standings.

Game One

The Nighthawks got on the board right away in the bottom of the first, as Maia McNicoll brought in a run with an RBI with a groundout and Tori Hensley singled home a run to make it 2-0.

McNicoll notched another RBI in the second, drawing a bases-loaded walk to build the lead to 3-0.

That was all NNU starter Sidney Booth would need, as the left-hander stymied the Wolves all game, allowing just one hit and no runs through seven innings while striking out 13.

Game Two

NNU started their scoring in the second inning, as McNicoll scored on a fielder's choice and Mckenzie Oakes scored on an error to put up two runs.

Booth added an RBI single in the third, and then the Nighthawks tallied six runs in the fourth to put the game away.

Three runs came across via two bases-loaded walks and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, before Hensley cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to make it 9-0.

Hensley then put the finishing touches on her five-inning complete game in the circle, finishing with her sixth win of the season after allowing just two hits and striking out three.

Next Up

The Nighthawks will head to Lacey next weekend to take on the aforementioned Saint Martin's, battling for the top spot in the GNAC with four games on April 22 and 23.
