ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball staged a furious comeback in the final moments but came up just short on Thursday night, falling to Alaska Anchorage 74-69.
How It Happened
- The Seawolves built an early lead, outscoring the Nighthawks 15-9 in the first quarter and 21-12 in the second to go up by 15 at halftime, 36-21.
- The third quarter was even with 18 points apiece, but NNU made a run in the fourth.
- NNU still trailed by 15 with 5:46 to play, but were able to bring the deficit to single digits with a pair of Erin Jenkins free throws that made it 69-60 with 2:05 remaining.
- UAA extended their lead back up to 13 moments later, but then the Nighthawks went on a 9-0 run over a span of 46 seconds to trail by just four, 73-69.
- The Seawolves would make a free throw and hold NNU off the board on the final possession, though, preserving a five-point victory.
Nighthawks Notes
- NNU falls to 11-6 overall and 5-4 in GNAC play on the year.
- Ashlynn Sylve led the Nighthawks with 13 points and added three assists.
- Erin Jenkins and Nyalam Thabach each had 11 points, with Jenkins also recording seven points and four assists.
- Jordan Pinson filled the stat sheet, notching nine points, six steals, five assists, and three rebounds.
- NNU shot well from the free throw line, converting 24 of 29 attempts for an 82.8% clip.
- The Nighthawks outrebounded the Seawolves 40-30, including 25-10 on the offensive end.
- Both teams could not hold on to the ball, with UAA committing 35 turnovers and NNU committing 31.
