GLENDALE, Ariz. – Northwest Nazarene softball wrapped up their seven-game Arizona trip with two more wins on Monday, sweeping a doubleheader at Arizona Christian 1-0 and 11-0.
Game One
The opener belonged to
Sidney Booth, who tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts and no walks. Arizona Christian's only hit came with one out in the bottom of the seventh, breaking up the perfect game chance with only two outs remaining.
NNU didn't fare much better from the plate, only managing two hits in the game and none in innings 1-3 or 5-7.
In the fourth, though, the two hits proved to be enough as
Ivy Hommel led off with an infield single and stole second, and was brought home immediately by a double from Booth.
Game Two
NNU enjoyed another stellar pitching outing in the second game, as
Charlotte Forniss tossed six scoreless innings with just two hits allowed.
The Nighthawks didn't get the offense going until the third inning, but the firepower was unleashed from there as NNU scored in each of the final four frames.
In the third, Hommel notched an RBI triple and Booth followed with a two-run homer. The lead extended to 4-0 in the fourth on an RBI single from
Madison Felter, and then 5-0 in the fifth on an RBI single from
Maia McNicoll.
The game was put far out of reach in the sixth as the Nighthawks tallied six runs, with Felter notching another RBI single, Booth drawing a bases-loaded walk,
Tori Hensley belting a three-run triple, and Forniss capping it off with the 11
th run of the day on an RBI single.
After Forniss shut down ACU in the bottom of the sixth, the game was called due to the eight-run rule after five innings.
Booth finished 2-2 with a walk and three RBI, while Forniss had three hits from the plate and Felter added two.
