SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene men's basketball suffered their first loss of the 2022-23 season on Tuesday night, falling at Point Loma 69-54.
The Nighthawks fall to 1-1 on the young season.
How It Happened
NNU and PLNU stayed close over the first 10 minutes, but the Sea Lions were able to build an eight-point lead, 32-24, with 2:25 to go in the first half.
With two free throws from
Tru Allen just before the break, the Nighthawks would go into the half trailing by six, 34-28.
A
Yaru Harvey jumper just out of half brought NNU within four, but that was as close as the Nighthawks would be for the rest of the game.
PLNU's lead quickly hit double digits for the first time at the 15:38 mark and the Sea Lions would lead by as much as 20 in the final minutes before taking the 15-point victory.
Nighthawks Notes
- The Nighthawks committed an uncharacteristically high 19 turnovers, but kept the rebounding margin close at 33-30 in favor of PLNU
- Tru Allen and Gabriel Murphy tied for the team lead with 12 points apiece, including Allen going 7-8 from the free-throw line
- Kobe Terashima led the team in both rebounds with six and assists with four
- Christian Rose added nine points and Yaru Harvey seven
Next Up
The Nighthawks will head up the coast of California to visit Cal State Los Angeles on Thursday, with tip-off against the Golden Eagles scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Pacific.
