NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball defeated Stanislaus State by a score of 63-55 in their season opener.
How it Happened
The Warriors jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game. The Nighthawks responded by going on a 14-3 run. Stanislaus State knocked down a three-point shot to end the first quarter with a score of 14-12 in favor of NNU.
NNU maintained a narrow lead for a majority of the second quarter.
Cami Knishka scored seven of the Nighthawks 14 points in the quarter. The Warriors tied the game at 25-25, but just before the end of the half,
Clare Eubanks scored three points off a free throw and a layup to regain the lead for the Nighthawks.
In the third quarter, both teams went back and forth. NNU outscored Stanislaus State 16-15 in the third quarter thanks to seven points from
McKenna Castledine. The third quarter ended with a four-point Nighthawks' lead 44-40.
NNU started to pull away from the Warriors in the fourth quarter. Their biggest lead of the game was 11 points, which came with just under a minute and a half remaining. After a couple more points from each team, the game concluded with the Nighthawks victorious by a score of 63-55.

- The Nighthawks were able to outscore the Warriors in every quarter
- This win marked the first time the Nighthawks have won their first game of the season since the 2018-19 season when they beat Stanislaus State
- Castledine lead the team in scoring with 16 points, followed by Eubanks and Jordan Pinson with 11
- Eubanks and Emma Clark lead all players in rebounds with eight each
- Knishka led all players in assists with six
- The Nighthawks had 15 steals to the Warriors' five
