WAIMEA, Hawaii - Northwest Nazarene women's golf had a strong second day at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate on Saturday, moving up a couple of spots to tie for seventh overall out of 16 teams.
NNU improved by 14 strokes between the two rounds, shooting a 308 on Friday and a 294 on Saturday. The 294 in round two is a new program record low round in NNU women's golf's 11-year history.
The Nighthawks tied with Cal State Monterey Bay with their total score of 602, just two strokes back of GNAC power Western Washington.
Elle McCord led the Nighthawks by tying for 13th overall out of 83 participants, improving by two strokes between rounds with scores of 75 and 73 for a 148 total.
Christine Cho was right behind McCord, going 75-74 to finish at 149 and tie for 18th overall.
Paige Vancil and
Madison Gridley also contributed to the Nighthawks scoring four, both tying for 40th overall at 154. Gridley in particular had a great second day, improving by 12 strokes from an 83 to a one-under par 71 that was tied for the fourth-best round of any competitor at the event.
Brianna Shervik rounded out the NNU participants, shooting a 165 to tie for 73rd.
With the fall season in the books, NNU will now look towards the spring when they will travel to Alameda, California for the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout starting February 27th.
