Nighthawks Fall to No. 12 Western Washington

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene volleyball came up short against the 12th-ranked Western Washington Vikings on Saturday night, falling in straight sets 22-25, 19-25, 18-25.

NNU falls to 11-4 overall and 4-3 in conference action.

How It Happened

The Nighthawks started strong, with an Olivia Wright kill, Caroline McMahon ace, and Viking error putting NNU up 3-0 early. WWU quickly grabbed the lead back, though, and would hold it the rest of the set. The Nighthawks made it very close at the end, with a Miya Koch kill drawing the deficit to just one at 23-22, but WWU then scored two in a row to take the frame.

The Vikings used that momentum to start the second set with a 5-1 lead. NNU cut the deficit to 13-11, but WWU would pull away from there for the six-point victory.

Set three was close throughout, with NNU trailing WWU by three or less points for the majority of the frame. Leading 16-15, the Vikings would go on a big run to close the final set, taking nine of the final 12 points.

Nighthawks Notes

  • NNU falls to 6-23 all-time against Western Washington
  • Olivia Wright led the Nighthawks with nine kills and a .278 attack percentage
  • Maren Dent added eight kills and Natalie Sullivan had six
