Nighthawks Hold Off Wolves for Big GNAC Win

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball earned a big home victory on Thursday night, holding off Western Oregon 73-66 in their first action in two weeks.
 
How It Happened
  • The Nighthawks and Wolves stayed close over the opening quarter, with a Jordan Pinson triple in the final seconds giving NNU a 20-18 at the end of the period.
  • NNU pulled away before the half, with six-straight points from Erin Jenkins putting the Nighthawks on top 37-30 at the break.
  • NNU would go up by as many as 17 during the third, but the Wolves battled back to make it a seven-point deficit again, 55-48, heading into the final period.
  • WOU cut the NNU lead all the way down to four, 61-57, with 4:11 to play, but a quick 5-0 run for the Nighthawks put the home team back up by nine.
  • NNU held WOU to just five more points the rest of the way and made their free throws, coming away with the 73-66 win.
Nighthawks Notes
  • NNU improves to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in GNAC action this season.
  • After starting the year 0-2, the Nighthawks have won 10 of their last 12 contests.
  • Erin Jenkins led NNU with 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, shooting 8-13 from the field in the game.
  • Jordan Pinson was next with 18 points, five assists, four steals.
  • Ashlynn Sylve rounded out the double-figure scoring with 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
  • Cami Knishka also added six boards, two assists, and two steals in the win.
  • NNU committed just 11 turnovers in the game, their lowest mark of the season.
  • The Nighthawks also forced 21 WOU turnovers, and turned that into a 29-10 advantage in points off of those giveaways.

The Nighthawks will be back home on Saturday, hosting Saint Martin's in the Kerri (Locke) Van de Wetering Memorial Game at 5:15 p.m. in the Johnson Sports Center.
