The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has released their All-American teams, with Northwest Nazarene outfielder
Grant Kerry receiving Honorable Mention honors.
Kerry is the first baseball player at NNU to earn All-American honors since joining Division II.Â
The transfer from Boise State was also the GNAC Newcomer of the Year and earned First Team All-Region honors from both the NCBWA and D2CCA.Â
He immediately stepped into the middle of NNU's lineup and has started all 42 games, playing right field and hitting cleanup for most of the season. Prior to the NCAA DII Championships in North Carolina this weekend, he leads the team with a .359 batting average and 56 hits and is second with 12 doubles, 11 home runs, and 49 RBI. He is sixth in the GNAC in batting average, third in home runs, and third in RBI.
The redshirt-freshman also had a 16-game hitting streak in April, leads the team with 18 multi-hit games, and is second with 13 multi-RBI games.
Kerry's bat has helped NNU to the best season in the program's Division II history. In 2021,Â
NNU has compiled a 34-8 overall record and 21-3 GNAC mark. NNU won both the GNAC regular season and conference tournament titles, reached the NCAA postseason for the first time, and now won the West Regional for the first time to advance to the championships in Cary, North Carolina from June 5-12. The Nighthawks have been in the NCBWA top-25 for nearly the entire season, climbing as high as sixth in the nation in early May.
