Women's Soccer Completes Undefeated Season

MONMOUTH, Ore. - Perfection. Northwest Nazarene women's soccer achieved something that almost never happens on Saturday, defeating Western Oregon 2-0 to cap an undefeated 11-0-0 season.

Before this spring, the only way to finish with an undefeated season would be to end with a National Championship. However, due to the cancelation of the fall championships, this years' Nighthawks can say that they achieved perfection, finishing without a draw or a loss to their record.

Regardless, and perhaps in spite of the circumstances, NNU reached multiple new heights this year in addition to the unblemished record. The Nighthawks were also ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 for the first time, climbing as high as No. 10 in the nation in the latest rankings. NNU's 11-game win streak also flies past the previous program record for victories in a row.

In today's match, NNU's defense locked down as they have all season, not allowing a single shot on goal by Western Oregon and only six total attempts.

The Nighthawks' first goal came in the 44th minute as Sierra Sanchez knocked in a feed from Rikki Myers to make it 1-0 just before halftime. McKenzie Buell tallied the second goal, finishing an assist from Carolyn Moravec in the 62nd minute.

The victory marked NNU's seventh shutout in the 11 matches, including six of the final seven. Overall on the year, NNU outscored their opponents a staggering 30-5 while averaging 19 shots per game and allowing just 5.7.

Four Nighthawks finished the campaign with double-digit points despite just the 11 matches. Buell led the team with 19 points on six goals and seven assists, followed by Ashley Parton with seven goals and three assists. Sanchez finished with six goals and one assist despite missing four of the 11 contests, and Moravec got to 10 points with three goals and four assists.
