The National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) announced yesterday that Northwest Nazarene baseball's
Shawn Grandmont has been named the West Region Player of the Week for March 22-28.
Grandmont was a force at the plate and at third base over the weekend, leading the 15th-ranked Nighthawks to a four-game sweep of Saint Martin's.
Over the four games, he hit .562, slugged 1.125, and recorded an on-base percentage of .611. He went 9-16 with five runs scored, 10 RBI, a double, a triple, two homers, a walk, and two steals.
In the second game on Friday, his three-run homer in the third inning proved to be the only runs on the board in a 3-0 win. He also had three hits in both games on Saturday, and recorded at least one hit and one RBI in all four contests.
Grandmont was also named the GNAC Player of the Week earlier on Monday.
Through the 20 games this year, Grandmont is second on the team with a .419 batting average, tied for first with three triples, second with six homers, first with 33 RBI, first with a .797 slugging percentage, first with 15 stolen bases, and tied for third with 15 walks. His RBI total leads the GNAC and ranks sixth nationally, while also ranking in the top five in the conference in nearly every offensive category.
NNU has this weekend off before returning home on April 9 and 10 for four games against Western Oregon.
