Nighthawks Snap Yellowjackets' Four-Game Win Streak

BILLINGS, Mont. - Northwest Nazarene women's basketball fared much better in their second matchup against MSU-Billings, outscoring the Yellowjackets by 11 in the fourth quarter to take a 78-74 victory.

After falling to MSUB by 17 on Friday night, NNU was able to regroup and put 31 points on the board in the final quarter to take the win. The Nighthawks get back to .500 with the victory, improving to 6-6 on the year.

NNU's ability to control the ball played a huge factor in the win, as the Nighthawks only turned the ball over 14 times while forcing 24 Yellowjacket giveaways. NNU also outpaced MSUB 23-10 in points off turnovers and 24-8 in fast break points, including an incredible 22 points on the break in the final 10 minutes.

Five Nighthawks were in double figures, led by 19 points from Erin Jenkins. Jordan Pinson was next with 17 points, including a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line. Nyalam Thabach just missed a double-double, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds. McKenna Emerson (13) and Teagan Thurman (12) rounded out the double figure scoring.

NNU got off to a slow start, going down 12-6 after the first quarter. The Nighthawks cut the deficit in half by halftime, but still trailed by seven entering the fourth quarter.

A Yellowjacket triple extended their lead to 10, but the Nighthawks then went on a 15-5 run to even the score at 62 on a Pinson layup with 4:18 to play. Pinson then gave NNU the lead with a three less than a minute later, putting NNU on top 65-64 with just over three minutes left.

Cami Knishka put NNU in front by three on a free throw with 26 seconds left, but MSUB came back down to hit a three and tie it with 19 ticks left on the clock. NNU would score the last four points of the game, though, as Pinson and Jenkins converted four free throws to earn the 78-74 win.

The Nighthawks and Yellowjackets will continue the season series next weekend in Nampa, playing two more games on March 5 and 6.
