NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene women's basketball was unable to hold off Montana State-Billings on Friday night, falling in a back-and-forth contest by one point, 80-79.
NNU used a 28-15 second-quarter run to go up by nine at halftime, but MSUB fought back in the second half and took the lead with six minutes to go in the fourth quarter. A pair of triples in the final three minutes from MSUB's Taryn Shelley iced the game for the Yellowjackets, as the visitors came away with the win despite a buzzer-beating three from NNU's
Nyalam Thabach.
With one game remaining on the schedule, NNU (6-7) will look to finish the season at .500 with a win over MSUB (5-2) on Saturday afternoon.
In tonight's game, Thabach had season-highs in points with 24, minutes with 30, made field goals with 10, and blocks with four. She also pulled down seven rebounds.
Erin Jenkins also had a 20-point game, finishing with a near double-double of 22 points and nine rebounds.
Cami Knishka played well, recording seven points and seven assists for the Nighthawks.
NNU was able to force 25 Yellowjacket turnovers, but only held a slim advantage in points off turnovers of 25-23. The Nighthawks owned the offensive glass, pulling down 14 offensive boards and outscoring MSUB 20-7 in second-chance points. NNU's bench also outscored MSUB 34-9.
Shelley finished with 24 points and six rebounds to lead the Yellowjackets.
