Nighthawks Handle Yotes in Caldwell

CALDWELL, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball took down Canyon County rival College of Idaho 76-61 on Tuesday night, outscoring the Yotes by 20 in the second quarter to put the game away early.
 
How It Happened
  • The Yotes came out strong, taking a 22-17 lead after the first quarter.
  • The Nighthawks turned things around in a big way in the second period, though, going on a 20-0 run to open the quarter and outscoring C of I 25-5 to take a 42-27 lead.
  • It was smooth sailing from there, as NNU outpaced C of I by six in the third quarter before coasting through the fourth to the 15-point win.
Nighthawks Notes
  • NNU improves to 7-3 on the season with their sixth win in the last seven games.
  • NNU has now defeated C of I in 11 straight games dating back to the 2007-08 season.
  • The Nighthawks forced 25 turnovers with 13 steals that led to a 28-11 margin in points off turnovers.
  • NNU also outscored C of I in fast break points with a 16-2 advantage.
  • Teagan Thurman had a monster game for the Nighthawks, scoring 17 points and pulling down a career-high 16 rebounds.
  • Nyalam Thabach also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds along with a pair of blocks.
  • Jordan Pinson tallied a season-best 15 points on 6-9 shooting from the field while recording a career high five steals.
  • Erin Jenkins was also in double figures with 10 points and four rebounds, all coming on the offensive end.
  • NNU head coach Steve Steele recorded his 99th win at the helm of the Nighthawks, and could reach the 100-win milestone with a victory this Friday.

The Nighthawks will play one more game before the holiday break, hosting non-conference opponent Lincoln University (CA) on Friday, Dec. 17 in the Johnson Sports Center at 7:00 p.m.
