Nighthawks Just Miss Century Mark in Win Over Lincoln

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball took an early lead and never looked back against Lincoln University (CA) on Friday Night, defeating the Oaklanders 99-47 in the final game before the holiday break.

How It Happened
  • The Nighthawks outscored the Oaklanders 23-12 in the first quarter and 27-9 in the second to take a 50-21 lead at halftime.
  • NNU coasted from there, just missing the century mark with 99 total points in the 52-point victory.
Nighthawks Notes
  • NNU improves to 8-3 on the season with their seventh win in the last eight games.
  • This is the first year that Lincoln University has sponsored athletics, with the inaugural women's team now 1-11 on the season.
  • The 99 points is the most the women have scored since a 99-91 overtime win at Simon Fraser on Feb. 15, 2020. The last regulation game that NNU has scored at least 99 in was a 103-68 victory over Whitworth in 2018.
  • The 52-point win is the largest margin of victory for a Nighthawks women's team since Dec. 17, 2011, when NNU defeated Walla Walla by 63 points, 107-44.
  • The Nighthawks pulled down 66 rebounds, the second-most in program history trailing just a record 72 against Whitman in the 1982-83 season.
  • NNU also had 25 assists, fourth-most in program history, and 21 steals as Lincoln turned the ball over 34 times.
  • The Nighthawks outscored the Oaklanders 58-18 in the paint and 24-12 in second chance opportunities.
  • Teagan Thurman had another massive double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds, pulling down eight boards on both the offensive and defensive ends.
  • Cami Knishka set a new career high with a whopping 12 assists, tied for fifth-most in program history in a single game.
  • Ashlynn Sylve and Kate Clark each had 13 points, while Analynn Bohner and Erin Jenkins each had 10 as five Nighthawks were in double figures. Sylve also had six steals.
  • All 11 Nighthawks scored and had at least two rebounds in the win.
  • Assistant coach Stacey Lukasiewicz filled in for a sidelined Steve Steele at the helm of the team on the night. However, the win is still officially credited to Steele, who has now won 100 games at NNU in just his sixth season. He is the fastest NNU women's basketball coach to reach the mark, doing so in only 140 games with an overall record of 100-40. He is also 65-18 in GNAC play during his tenure.
Next Up

The Nighthawks have a couple of weeks off now for the holiday break, resuming action with a big GNAC weekend at home against Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 6 and Alaska Anchorage on Jan. 8.
