NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball scored their first win of the 2021-22 campaign with a 77-73 victory over a quality West Texas A&M squad.
How It Happened
- The first quarter saw a lot of defense and missed shots, with the teams only scoring a combined 27 points over the first 10 minutes as NNU led 15-12.
- The Nighthawks turned it on in the second quarter, though, outscoring the Lady Buffs 26-18 to take an 11-point lead into the break.
- West Texas A&M started to chip away in the third quarter, getting the NNU lead back into single digits at 59-53.
- The Lady Buffs cut the deficit down to two multiple times over the course of the fourth quarter, and eventually made it a one-point game, 74-73, after a jumper from Karle Motschenbacher with 39 seconds to play.
- After an NNU timeout, Erin Jenkins stepped up and drilled a dagger three to build the lead back up to four with 15 seconds remaining.
- A couple of missed West Texas A&M shots later, NNU held on for the 77-73 victory.

- NNU earns their first win of the season, improving to 1-2 on the year.
- The win marks the first victory over West Texas A&M for NNU, bringing the all-time series even at one win apiece.
- Jenkins led all scorers with 22 points, followed by Nyalam Thabach with 16.
- Thabach also had eight rebounds, one behind Teagan Thurman, who just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.
- Clare Eubanks rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points and six boards.
- Lydia Nieto dished out eight assists and Thurman had five assists, while Emma Clark notched five steals.
- NNU had a decisive advantage down low, outpacing West Texas A&M 48-18 in points in the paint.
