Huge Second Half Propels NNU to Sixth-Straight Win

LACEY, Wash. - Not much is stopping the Nighthawks these days. For the second night in a row, Northwest Nazarene men's basketball put 90 points on the board as they defeated Saint Martin's 94-72 on Saturday.

NNU improves to 8-1 on the year with their sixth-straight victory. The Nighthawks are also 5-1 on the road.

Both teams came out firing in the opening half, nearly posting 50 points apiece as NNU took a 49-46 lead into the break. The second half was a much different story, as the Nighthawks outscored the Saints 45-26.

NNU forced just 10 turnovers by the Saints, but was extremely efficient in converting those into scoring opportunities with 20 points off of SMU giveaways.

Ezekiel Alley had another shining night for the Nighthawks, putting up 29 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals. George Reidy added 18 points, followed by James Nelson with 12 points and seven boards. Kobe Terashima also finished with eight points and five assists.

Eleven different Nighthawks scored in the game, as NNU shot 51.5% from the field and 34.5% from deep.

Clinging to the three-point lead at halftime, NNU wasted no time pulling away from Saint Martin's to begin the second period. Alley opened things with a 7-0 run all by himself, pouring in back-to-back layups and a triple to make it 56-46 at the 17:52 mark.

The lead extended to 15 on a Tru Allen layup with 10:57 to play, and would top 20 points a few minutes later as back-to-back Reidy layups made it 86-63 with 6:04 remaining.

The Nighthawks were able to coast from there, finishing the game off with a layup from Ethan McPherson to take the 94-22 victory.

NNU will now return home and practice for a week before hosting Lewis-Clark State next Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
