PHOENIX, Ariz. - Northwest Nazarene men's soccer took on Grand Canyon on Thursday night in the first of two exhibitions against the Lopes, falling to GCU 5-1.
"I've really challenged the guys in these early matches against elite Division I opponents," said NNU head coach
Adam Pearce. "It's revealed several things for us to work on, areas for growth, and opportunities for players."
Danny Cuevas tallied the lone goal for the Nighthawks, finding the back of the net in the 77th minute.Â
NNU totaled six shots, with four put on frame, led by
Jake Levine's two attempts.
Sawyer Price logged all 90 minutes in goal, recording five saves.Â
"Several players got significant minutes tonight, which will be a positive when we have another match in 48 hours," said Pearce. "It was also good to see freshman
Jimmy Koufidakis playing in front of friends and family in his home state, and to see him put in a good shift and perform well in only his second college match."
The Nighthawks and the Lopes will square off again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
