SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – It took the Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team five games to win as many games as all of last season.
The Nighthawks (3-2 overall) defeated Dominican University 2-0 on Saturday in nonconference action in the Bay Area.
NNU finished 3-14-1 last season as it struggled with injuries and youth.
Junior
Jake Levine scored both goals, giving him three on the season, as NNU earned the road sweep after defeating Notre Dame de Namur 2-0 on Thursday.
"That was a very complete performance, start to finish," said NNU coach
Adam Pearce, who is in his first year with the program. "It was our most comprehensive performance offensively and defensively, and in the execution of the game plan.
"They were all up to the task today."
Levine scored on an assist from
Cameron Natvig and
Skyler Munroe in the 39th minute to open the scoring and then doubled the lead in the 61st minute on assists from Munroe and
Aidan McGinty.
Levine's second goal came on a bouncing ball that he kicked with his right foot over the head of the goalie.
"It was incredibly athletic and incredibly challenging," Pearce said. "At the moment of the game, it broke the spirit of the opponent a little bit."
Alex Nadermann made two saves in goal to earn his second consecutive shutout.
The Nighthawks outshot the Penguins (1-4-1) 19-8, including 7-2 on goal.
NNU is back in action at 5 p.m. Friday, hosting the University of Mary.
