Nighthawks get back to winning ways

NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene softball team looked like its old self Friday, sweeping Concordia in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader to end a four-game losing streak.

The Nighthawks (12-10 overall, 2-4 GNAC) won the opener 7-1 and the nightcap 11-8 behind big days from Brittany Genuardi and Jordan Adams.

Genuardi was 2-for-3 with a triple, home run and two RBIs in the opener and 4-for-4 with a double and a home run, three runs scored and four RBIs in the nightcap.

"It was great to get our first two conference wins of the year," NNU coach Rich Wagner said. "We need to continue to build off of it. A lot of girls put in extra work this week and it showed at the plate today. It was nice for them to see success."

Adams allowed one run on four hits with 10 strikeouts in the opener as the Nighthawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings.

Kylie Orr was 2-for-3 with a double, Shelbie Martinez drove in two runs and Anna Williams another.

In the nightcap, the game was tied 6-6 after three innings but the Nighthawks scored four times in the fourth to pull away.

Martinez was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double, Orr was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Williams was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Cassidy Fifield was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases.

The teams meet for another doubleheader at 12 p.m. Saturday.
