Nighthawks bounce back, defeat Saints

| By:
Box Score LACEY, Wash. – The Northwest Nazarene volleyball team bounced back from a loss earlier this week by defeating Saint Martin's in four sets Saturday.

The Nighthawks, who were swept by Seattle Pacific on Thursday, defeated the Saints 25-16, 25-23, 13-25, 25-10 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.

"We responded well from Thursday night," NNU coach Doug English said. "We play really good when we are relaxed and the girls did a good job of getting in a good mindset."

NNU (10-9 overall, 6-6 GNAC) had a dominant offensive match, hitting .268 as a team. The Nighthawks had 53 kills with just 12 errors.

"The passing was great and Megan (Nelson) did a good job of passing to the right kids," English said. "Abbey (Blum) scored a ton on the backside and Brooke (Foster) had a nice match on the outside."

Natalie Sullivan and Brooke Foster each had 13 kills, while Foster added 12 digs and three aces. Abbey Blum had 11 kills and 15 digs, Tayler Markland had eight kills and Lexi Ward added six kills and no errors.

Megan Nelson added 38 assists and 12 digs while Kayla Sale had 15 digs.

"They played really from the start and finished well in Set 4," English said. "Any time you can finish 25-10 is a good way to end a match and head home."

NNU returns home to host Alaska Anchorage at 7 p.m. Thursday.
