Nighthawks earn point on the road

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw at Western Oregon on Saturday in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.

The draw ends a two-match losing streak for the Nighthawks and gives them eight points in the league standings and keeps them in a hunt for a playoff spot. The top four teams advance to the GNAC tournament and the Nighthawks are in sixth place just two points out of fourth.

"We came in with hard circumstances with the weather and field and our girls responded well," NNU coach Mary Trigg said. "We fought hard to keep a shutout. We need to clean some stuff up offensively for next week, but we are building off of this game."

NNU (5-6-2 overall, 2-3-2 GNAC) bunkered down on defense and withstood 13 shots by Western Oregon (6-4-3, 3-2-2), including five on goal to get the much-needed road point.

Alexis Montoya made five saves in goal and the defense stood tall. The teams tied 1-1 in Nampa earlier this season.

The Nighthawks host Central Washington at 7 p.m. Thursday in their final home match of the regular season.
