ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Northwest Nazarene men's basketball team's five-game winning streak came to an end Saturday as Alaska Anchorage defeated the Nighthawks 85-73 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
NNU led 57-52 midway through the second half, but an 18-4 run by Anchorage put the game away.
"Defensively we had lapses and they are a good offensive team and they exploited those," NNU coach
Paul Rush said. "Our guys did a good job of responding and not letting it get out of reach, but when we made mistakes they took advantage of it."
The Nighthawks struggled to shoot the ball from beyond the arc, finishing 3-of-23 on the night. The Seawolves, meanwhile, made 9-of-19.
"I think we have to do a better job on our shot selection," Rush said. "We took a lot of contested, selfish 3s early and we lost confidence. We have to do a better job early and throughout the game of not searching for our shots, but working together for great shots."
Adonis Arms' 26 points, six rebounds and five assists led the Nighthawks, while
Obi Megwa added 15 points before fouling out.
James Nelson and
Adalberto Diaz each finished with eight.
The Nighthawks were again without third-leading scorer
Jayden Bezzant, who missed the Alaska trip because of an injury.
NNU heads back to Nampa and will host Concordia at 7 p.m. Thursday and Western Oregon at 7 p.m. Saturday.
