NNU volleyball drops GNAC opener

Box Score ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Northwest Nazarene volleyball team dropped its Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener Thursday in three sets to Alaska Anchorage.

The Nighthawks (0-8 overall, 0-1 GNAC) lost 26-24, 25-17, 25-15.

"We struggled to put away Set 1," NNU coach Doug English said. "We were up enough to put it away and if we win that, it could be a different match."

NNU came out strong in the opening set, leading 22-17 before the Seawolves went on a run to take control of the match.

Shayli Siegfreid had 23 digs to lead the Nighthawks defense, while Abbey Blum had 14 kills and Tayler Markland had five to lead the offense.

"Shayli had a great defensive match for us," English said. "We tried to make the ball go to her and she had 23 digs, which is great for us. Overall our defense has been good."

Megan Nelson had 19 assists, Mckenzie Lee had 11, Cami Heninger had six kills and 18 digs and Kayla Sale had four kills and 13 digs.

NNU plays at Alaska at 9 p.m. MDT on Saturday.
