NNU men end season on high note

SEATTLE, Wash. – Jayden Bezzant scored 27 points and the Northwest Nazarene University men's basketball team ended its season on a high note, defeating Seattle Pacific 67-56 on Saturday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game.

Maurice Jones had 11 points and six rebounds, Marko Lepovic had three points and Dylan Brink two in their final game with the Nighthawks (13-13 overall, 9-11 GNAC).

"I'm so proud of this group of guys and how they persevered through our first season together," NNU coach Paul Rush said. "There are so many new things with a new program that these guys embraced and bought into.

"I'm thankful for the opportunity to coach such a strong group of seniors and excited for the returners to keep building this program."

NNU swept the season series with the Falcons, winning 103-91 in Nampa on November 30 in the GNAC opener for both teams.

Olamilekan Adetunji finished with 11 points and four rebounds, while Sam Roth had four points and 11 rebounds.

"Guys really seized the moment with their last opportunity to be together this season," Rush said. "We were really gritty and together defensively. Offensively, we moved the ball well and were able to get great looks."

NNU pulled away with a 16-2 run midway through the second half to get some breathing room.

Jones started it with a layup at the 14:23 mark, Bezzant and Brink then had buckets sandwiched around another Jones layup to make it 48-41 with 12:43 left.

Adetunji then hit a layup, Jones hit a pair of free throws and Carlos Garcia hit a pair of jumpers to make it 56-41 with 5:58 left.

The Falcons (16-11, 11-9) pulled within six at the three-minute mark, but got no closer.
