MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Northwest Nazarene University men's basketball team struggled rebounding the ball, falling 82-64 to Western Oregon on Saturday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game.
The Wolves outrebounded the Nighthawks 50-35, scoring 20 second chance points in the process.
"We really did a good job defensively, but gave up so many second chance points," NNU coach
Paul Rush said, "and points off turnovers. It negates all of our defensive efforts."
Against a team as good as Western Oregon that makes it impossible to win. The Wolves (17-1, 9-1 GNAC) have just one loss this season and are one of the best teams in the West region.
Obi Megwa had a team-high 22 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead the Nighthawks (9-7, 5-5).
Maurice Jones had 15 points and four rebounds and Khalil Thompson added 12 points.
"Offensively, we allowed their physicality to take us out of what we wanted to do," Rush said.
NNU returns to action Tuesday hosting Central Washington at 7 p.m.
