Box Score SAN FRANCISCO – Two late goals lifted San Francisco State to a 3-1 victory over the Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team on Thursday afternoon at Cox Stadium in San Francisco.
SFSU scored the opening goal in the 26
th-minute and the Crusaders battled and evened the score in the 58
th-minute when
Ashley Cook-Cox scored her first goal of the season from the middle of the box.
"We played so well in the second half and tied it up at 1-1," NNU head coach
Mary Trigg commented. "I am proud of how the girls moved the ball. It was one of those games where a set piece in the last three minutes didn't go our way and that was the difference in the game."
The Gators took the lead late in the match, scoring in the 86
th-minute as Vanessa Penuna scored from close range off a Janessa Staab assist to make it 2-1. SFSU added another tally in the 88
th-minute when Bianca Lowe won a 1v1 with the Crusader goalkeeper, who touched a piece of the shot, but couldn't keep it from crossing the goal line.
"We have so much to build on," Trigg added. "I'm encouraged moving forward."
NNU will travel across the San Francisco Bay to face Holy Names University on Saturday afternoon in Hayward. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT.
