Carlos Rodriguez-Diaz and
Michael Bryant each scored their first goals of the season as the Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 2-0 at Toro Stadium.
The Crusaders improved to 2-1 as Rodriguez-Diaz finished a Bryant assist in the 17
th-minute to put the visitors on the scoreboard.
"It was a gritty win tonight," commented NNU head coach
Joel DeLass. "It wasn't the best we've played this year, but a solid team effort."
In a statistically even match, CSUDH (2-1) finished with a 21-18 edge in shots and an 8-7 lead in corner kicks. Both NNU's
Jacob Hillyer and CSUDH's Chase Gentry made four saves.
"Another quality performance from the back line and timely goals from both Carlos and Michael," DeLass added. "It's always tough to win on the road and we have to turn around quickly to prepare for a tough Azusa team."
Bryant added the insurance goal in the 85
th-minute, scoring an unassisted counter inside the right post from 15-yards out.
The Crusaders will play at Azusa Pacific University on Saturday afternoon, kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT.
